A little expensive but ultimately worth it4
People - please don't be put off by people complaining about 'flappy cases', the case is made from stiff leather and has survived a multiple of excursions in my very unforgiving rucksack. If anything, the flap makes it easier to slip the camera out of the case, as it gives you somewhere to put your fingers!

The case has a soft scratch resistant inner lining giving some protection to that beautiful screen. The case adds no extra bulk or weight to the camera, and makes the camera look like an even classier product than it already is.

    Why only four stars?
I have found that when the seems of the case are exposed to high temperatures (sitting in 35 degree C sun for a few minutes) the glue holding the case together begins to melt! This surprised me, because the leather is stitched together, but apparently glue is used as well.
The price is perhaps a little on the high side, but it is genuine leather, which is vastly superior to cloth 'bags'

Recommended, the best no frills protection you can buy for this camera!

    Seems fine to me4
I was initially reluctant to buy this case because of the 'flap problem' described by other reviewers. I eventually bought it, and it seems fine - the flap doesn't seem to cause problems. The case fits the camera nicely and I would recommend it. I also have a Lowepro D-Res 8s case for the same camera, which I use as an alternative, to provide more padding and space for a spare battery and memory card when these are needed.

At last, a case made for a specific camera4
Finally, a Canon case that is made for a specific camera rather than a series of cameras (e.g. The case for the Ixus 5xx series was generic and did not actually fit the cameras!). This case, however, fits like a glove.

    Why only 4 Stars?

    1) It is not free. We spend hundreds of pounds on the camera, the case is not really an 'optional' extra it is mandatory when you spend that much on an item. It is like buying a convertible car and the roof is optional. You don't need the roof they might say, but you would not want to own the car without one.

    2) It has a flap on the left hand side where the sidewall of the case is unsupported. This is because there is a cut-out to allow the strap through. As the flap is unsupported it often sticks out or gets caught when you try to put the camera back in the case.

    3) A minor niggle. The case has a superfluous metal "Canon Digital Ixus" badge on the front. After about 1 month of having the case in my pocket or bag it is already starting to get scuffed and now looks a bit battered.

If you buy the camera, you have to buy a case. You may as well buy this one as it fits the camera really well. I am sure there are third party cases available but I could not be bothered to investigate further. So if you are lazy like me, are not bothered about spending more money on your new camera and can put up with the case's foibles then this is the case for you!
