Essential reading for island hoppers
The author clearly knows a lot about the Greek islands and the idiosyncratic ferry network. Anyone going island hopping should get a copy as much of the information in this book is not available anywhere else. If anything, the sheer quantity of information about ferries, their routes and ferry times is overwhelming - but better too much information than not enough. The author also has a very dry sense of humour that some people may take literally and confuse it with a rather negative outlook. It isn't: he's expressing honest and personal views (and how rare is that these days) in his own style. If you want a glossy 'this island is lovely, and so is that one, and that one too...' sort of guide, it is not for you. Personally, I would rather have some honest views and lots of information from someone who knows their stuff.

Greek Island Hopping (Independent Travellers - Thomas Cook) (Independent Traveller's Guides)
I already had an earlier edition of this book which I had found really useful but it was well thumbed & out of date.
The new edition is just as informative, includes up to date Ferry information, good accomodation guide, maps of the Islands & transport links.
This is the only book I shall carry with me & although I have others I have found this the most comprehensive.
The Bible
There is a reason why this book is called the Island Hopper's Bible. No it is not because it's thick... A condensed package of information about ferry travel in Greece, including vast amounts of detail on every island and their (at least) main towns as well as (of course) every aspect of the ferry system and ferry routes. But if it a restaurant guide you want, you bought the wrong book... Always liked the humour in these books too. I buy a new edition almost every year.
