Great detail and guide for sailing the Ionian
Very thorough and clear guide to sailing these waters. Includes useful tips for mooring, which you would expect, but also information on Taverns, Restaurants and facilities that are on shore, for example Banks, Pharmacy etc. I am sure there are many books in this field and on board our Flotilla Boat there was a bigger manual covering Greece, but I found this clear, easy to follow and a great help in deciding where to go on Free Days.
As an aside, the Book is a strong Hardback and well put together as it inadvetently survived very well a few drops and slides while sailing without any issues.
Two weeks intensive use on the Ionian
This is a really helpful book for a very specific audience - if you are going on a cruising/sailing holiday in the Ionian it is an excellent companion to the revered Rod Heikell guide that has been around for a long time. The book is beautifully illustrated and contains much more information on the facilities in the Towns and Harbours along the way than you will find in the Heikell book. If you were free sailing or independant cruising it would be absolutely invaluable and is bang up to date.
My only criticism would be that it does not contain a litle more history of the places it covers - some areas of the ionian simply ooze history and I found myself reaching for this book thinking it might paint a bit of background - but it generally doesn't and is very matter of fact. Sailors beware as, despite the lack of history, it is a hefty tome and can cause injury if not properly stowed in a stong winds!
Well worth the purchase price.
Ionian Cruising Companion
This book is a must for thoses about to embark on a sailing holiday in the Ionian Sea. The book is logically laid out and therefore easy to reference and is well illustrated with plans and pictures of marinas and anchorages. The book contains excellent pilotage information for getting in and out of tight moorings and provides a good overview of the facilities at your desired stop. Overall a fabulous book and one I would not want to be without in those waters.
