Customer Reviews
Disapointed!
I bought this Kit for the MCSD exams but I was disapointed with the content. I was expecting far more information and better presentation, especially from a book that is recommended by Microsoft. It will by no means be enough for you to pass the exams so I'd recommend instead of spending around £100 to get this Kit, buy a few good quality books on each subject. It might come a bit more expensive, but you stand more chances of passing this way.
Good for certification
I have used these books plus some practice exams to pass certification. For this end they are perfectly sufficient. It is true that they are not as in-depth as the free documentation but the documentation is difficult to navigate around. The layout in these books is excellent for speed-reading/skimming/revising the night before an exam. These books will never be far from my desktop if only to fend off trivial questions from colleagues. I don't plan to buy any other .NET books now but to rely upon Google and MSDN.
Not up to par and not for C# developers
I am a profesional C# developer and holds a master degree in computer science. I bought the set not to learn to program, but becaurse of my employers certification policy. However I never came past page 150 in the Web applications book. The problem with this set is as follows:
1.) The books seem to be written by a Visual Basic programmer. An example: The author several places talkes of "Friend classes" omitting the C# frase "internal class".
2.) The C# classes are missing whole methods, - methods wich are present in the Visual Basic listings.
3.) The C# code is right out faulty several places.
In the end I couldn't bear it anymore and returned the whole set. There are better books out there, like the books written by Amit Kalani.
