Product Description

Dr Harry Corbett is on his way to visit his estranged wife, Evie, who is scheduled for surgery the next day, for what he hopes will be a quiet evening of reconciliation. In recent weeks Evie, never quick to share her feelings, has been more closed and distant than ever. But, without warning, he arrives to find her dead in her hospital bed. The police suspect murder, and Corbett is their only suspect...Harry is unprepared for the stunning revelations that follow. Leading a double life, his beautiful wife had uncovered a deadly secret, and when the killer strikes again, Harry is once more the sole suspect. Medically sophisticated, coolly arrogant, moving undetected through a busy urban hospital, it is clear to Harry that the killer, can only be a doctor. But can he stop the killer in his tracks before any more patients receive his lethal silent treatment?

Rather Slow in Places3
Silent Treatment by Michael Palmer * * *
My second Michael Palmer book but unfortunately not as good as "Critical Judgement" Where Critical Judgement had pace and drama this book dragged in the middle for me and was perhaps 50 pages too long. The storyline and the beginning of the book is fine and the end is well written , tense and exciting but the book tends to meander along in the middle without any great excitement.

An absolutely fantastic read!!5
If you love Robin Cook then you'll love Michael Palmer. I couldn't put it down, it had me gripped from start to finish and I read it in four days. It was my first novel by Michael Palmer and I can't wait to read his others!!

A world far from my own4
Murderers are found in every environment, even the medical one (or perhaps especially). Dr. Harry Corbett sure discovers that life can be a bit complicated when no one seems to believe his claims of innocence. Almost everyone believes that his has killed his own wife. His only witness is an alcoholic who was in DT when she claims to have seen someone do the deed.

The police aren't exactly presented in the best light in this book. Detective Dickinson is one lazy bastard. He doesn't want to listen to Harry's story, nor investigate it.

Roundtable is a group of megalomanic men who certainly make insurance business a frightening place to place your money. They are made believable and the presentation made me wonder about my own insurance company. Are they part of something like this?

Some bad guys struggle with their "evil deeds". This killer, on the other hand, enjoys his work and loves making death an unpleasant event for as many people as possible without anyone catching on to him. We all know who the "bad guy" is at the beginning of the book, but catching him is another matter altogether. This is a crook to love.

This has to become a classic in the world of mysteries. Definitely one of the more difficult ones to put down.
