Product Description

With more than five hundred breeds and varieties, pigs can be found in all shapes and sizes, and on every continent except Antarctica. Although swine have roamed fields and forests for centuries, this guide is the first to offer easy-to-understand descriptions and illustrations of thirty-six of the most popular and intriguing breeds. A Field Guide to Pigs is a one stop reference for little known facts, fascinating tidbits about pig behavior and etiquette. The book has a timeline of pig history, a list of famous and remarkable pigs, pig quotes and much more.

Customer Reviews

Not what it claims to be!1
I don't usually give the thumbs down to a book but I do think people should be warned about what they are buying here.

There are a few tidbits of interesting information in this publication but not many. It really gives little to either inform or help anyone serious about finding information on pigs.
It attempts to be amusing - and possibly is to a certain type of adolescent - not rude, just unfunny.
The only colour is on the cover. Most of the illustrations are drawings - not particulary informative either.
The majority of information is aimed at the American market and the editor hasn't done a very good job - there are some outragous proof reading errors!
The printing and the paper are rough.

Unique Collection of Interesting general background Pig Info4
A cute collection of all kinds of interesting titbits of information about pigs.

There is a good guide to the zoological and historical background of the porcine species. Fascinating titbits about pigs taken from literature.

A review of common breeds and their identification features and geographical distribution plus general information about the behaviour, needs and lifestyle of pigs.

It is a useful book for people who are new to the world of the pig and pig farming. Industry people looking for specialist husbandry info will be disappointed.

Especially useful for smallholders and hobby or pet pigkeepers. A list of contents is available online at: www.pighealth.com/offers/pig.htm
