Customer Reviews

Disappointing!2
I've read most of Joe Lansdale's books and have greatly enjoyed them but this is just not very good.

I think I've enjoyed his books in the past ("The Bottoms", the excellent "A Fine Dark Line", even the bizarre"Freezer Burn") because I've been able to feel some affinity with the characters, but here, that affinity (for me, at least) is missing - I just don't care about the characters or what happens to them! It's a shame, because the actual premise of the book is interesting.

Let's hope the return of Hap and Leonard in the near future is more successful!

Lansdale On Top Form5
I have been a fan of Joe R Lansdale for some time now and have yet to be diappointed by any of his work. Whether it is the Hap and Leonard series, his writing for comic books, or standalone novels such as this, his writing is always vibrant and full of dark wonder.

Great characters that I really identified with, particularly the hero of the story and his unfortunate experiences with manipulative women, growing apart from childhood friends and experiences with alcohol. All young men go through this, though thankfully not all see such ghastly visions...

Behind the wisecracking dialogue lies real tension and touching tenderness between the young man and his drunken, bereaved mentor. As usual, Lansdale leaves you wanting more.

You don't know what you are going to get with Joe..........4
You do not always know what you are going to get with Joe Lansdale.....and I see that as a good thing. I have to admit to being less than overwhelmed with some of his stuff, but when he hits the spot then it is something special.
For me Lost Echoes hit the spot........one of those books that (cliche alert!)I did not want to put down.
I always avoid outlining the plot in a recommendation;surely that's what you read the book to find out.......just to say that if you want something amongst the best in current American crime fiction then I believe that this is it.
