Review
"[Sawyer and MacPhee] have made a 'lousy' subject socially acceptable with good humor and excellent pedagogy."--Dr. C. Everett Koop, former U.S. Surgeon General

About the Author
Joan Sawyer spent many years producing award-winning educational documentaries for health care professionals and consumers, tackling a variety of challenging subjects. Her film, Code Grey, about the ethical dilemmas faced by nurses, won her an Academy Award nomination. Along with fellow author Roberta MacPhee, Joan currently runs Sawyer Mac Productions and the American Head Lice Information and Resource Center based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Joan is the mother of two daughters and wife of 26 years to Timothy Sawyer, an actor and voice talent. She received her B.A. in Broadcasting and Film from Boston University and a graduate degree from Harvard University. Most of all, Joan believes that when life hands you lemons, make lemonade, or make a movie and/or write a book about it.

Roberta MacPhee is an award-winning writer and producer of educational media. She has developed public service programming in the areas of health, highway safety, environmental protection, violence prevention and fire safety. A coauthor of Just the Facts: A Guide to Teenage Health, Roberta also spent several years developing communications programs for learning disabled adolescents. She received a B.A. in History and a M.S. in Language Pathology from Boston University. Her media work has been honored by the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services and the National Educational Film Festival, among others. Roberta is a mother to a lice-free ten-year-old, wife to environmental consultant, Neil, and like her partner, Joan, believes that life's lemons make for great stories.
