His best ever
I have read all of the authors novels and have the utmost respect for Richard North Patterson. They have all been brilliant but I think with Conviction, he has excelled himself. Particularly compelling is his ability to put all sides of the arguements for and against capital punishment. This is a wonderful book and I immensely enjoyed reading it - couldn't put it down. Let's hope we hear lots more from Richard North Patterson.
Capital crimes!
Patterson can always be counted on to delivery a taught legal thriller that is revelant current topic, and his most recent novel "Conviction" meets all expectations! This time he address the messy issue of capital punishment. I won't rehash the plot, that has already been donme here, but the book is a mix of hard boiled investigation and court room drama. Nothing is simple and the author does not become bogged down in the retoric of the right or the left on this issues, but does paint a picture of the issues and how they effect real live people. Yes this is a work of fiction, but there is reality here. BECAREFUL READING EARLIER REVIEWS-SPOILERS! I just finished another interesting thriller/mystery "A Tourist in the Yucatan" fun arceological thriller.
Dull
Normally I'm a hige patterson fan but this book falls way short of the mark. It's dull, boring and unispiring. The book explores the intricacies of the death penalty in the USA and plods along at a snails pace.
Patterson can usually create charcters you care about but, by the middle of this book, I was so bored I just didnt care what happend to them. He had clealry done his research for this book but failed to write the story in a way that was enjoyable to read. a huge let down
