A story of bravery
This is a story of a brave parrot who doesn't give up her efforts to put out a forest fire. All of the other animals in the forest run away in fear but she decides that she must try to stop the fire by collecting drops of water from the river into a leaf cup and flying over the fire to drop the water onto the flames. Despite being told by the other anumals that her efforts would not be enough to quell the flames, she carries on until a great eagle who has been watching develops shame and begins to weep. The tears fall onto the fire in torrents until eventually the fire is put out, plants begin to regrow and the parrot's scourched feathers are replaced by new colourful feathers.
This is a traditional Indian Jataka story that teaches how we can overcome great adversity and set an example to others by trying to help wherever we can.
The illustrations are bold and colourful, delicate and beautiful. A wonderful book for children and adults alike.
