From the Back Cover

Social Sciences: The Big Issues 2nd edition offers an introduction to the big debates within the social sciences and to what the social sciences can provide as a means of explaining the changing world. The social sciences focus upon people as individuals and as members of wider communities and networks, and looks at all aspects of human relationships from the personal and intimate to the public and political. The book covers contemporary concerns with identities, citizenship, migration, diversity, new technologies and the changing and often uncertain impact of globalization. The second edition has been extensively updated with new illustrations and examples and additional discussion of the responses of the social sciences to the mobilities of contemporary life, such as migration, living in multiethnic and often rapidly changing communities, new forms of citizenship, the impact of the material world, the perception that we live in a more insecure and dangerous world and the role of the media in presenting ideas about the changes that might be taking place.

Really Helpfull5
I purchased this book as a recommended reading item for an Open University course in Social Sciences that I was about to start, and I am so glad I did. The course itself was challenging, and the book helped enormously. The Author of this book is also the Course team Chair.

Excellent Reference!5
I have looked a this book towards my study for my psychology degree and found this very informative, I am going to purchase this to take me through my first years at university, I thoroughly recommend this title to anyone who wants thorough information to get them through their courses.

Very Useful Introduction4
I purchased this book in preparation for starting an OU course in social sciences. I found it really useful as a basis for understanding the main themes of social sciences. They have already become relevant to my studies and I am glad I read this book to give me an idea of what to expect. I liked the layout of the book and breakdown of the chapters, I did not feel that I was being bombarded with too much information. It also brought to light some key phrases and terminology that I did not know about and as a result have looked in to further. I also liked that there are pictures, graphs and tables etc in the book to explain arguments and give facts. This broke away from the static text and I also found I could make it relevant to my own experiences and put things in to perspective.
