Product Description
Joe Milano returned to Saigon in 1965 to photograph the enchanting city he had visited eight years before, but instead finds a Vietnam being destroyed by war. His interest in its language and culture attracts an Agency recruiter, and before long Saigon Station is using him in clandestine operations against the communists. A lonely young female case officer helps Joe learn the tricks of this new trade, though other amoral colleagues make him question its morality. He slowly comes to understand the frustrating craft of America's professional spies, totally unlike their fictional counterparts. The 1968 Tet Offensive finds the CIA Station unprepared before and in denial after. Now it needs a scapegoat. Though Joe was only an apprentice spy, suddenly, his job, security clearance, even his marriage plans are all at risk.

About the Author
The author went to Vietnam in 1960 simply to marry his pen pal, but left 13 years later as a top U.S. Embassy expert on the country?s language and culture. In the years between, his undercover colleagues provided raw material for this realistic first novel of spies at war.
