cuba-tastic!
This book is dynamite - about both a love affair in Havana and a love affair with Havana. If you have actually been to Havana then this book takes you back there in an instant.

A Poem for Havana
I took this book with me on my second trip to Havana. I am not usually a fast reader but almost finished it in the plane on the way there. I stopped because i wanted to save it, savour it. It is a really beautifully written book and Pico Ayer's writing shines like poetry. Though it was written in the eightees, it reflects the social and political conditions that exist in Cuba today, told around and aside a passionate romance. A wonderfull book to take to Cuba. Beautifull.

put me off going to cuba!
I bought this book on a recommendation from amazon.co.uk when I bought the Rough Guide to Cuba. "Cuba and the Night" probably paints too realistic a picture of life in Cuba and I don't think I'll be putting the Rough Guide to use! The poverty in which the people live and the constant hustle for the dollar makes depressing reading. This is the flip side of the Buena Vista Social club.
