Thirty creative textile projects that are suitable to be hung and framed. The book aims to inspire readers to look at the use of textiles as a medium for creating innovative graphic artwork. The projects combine applique with patching, surface embellishment (with buttons, beads, trimmings and wire), knitting and machine- and hand-embroidery techniques. The projects range from the very easy to those that will prove a bit more of a challenge. The book is filled with photos showing how different effects can be achieved. There are also suggestions on how to modify the projects in order to personalise them. Also included are discussions of materials, equipment and techniques which the maker will find useful. All in all, this is a book filled with imaginative projects which will work both as a source of inspiration and information.

Beginner's choice
As an experienced embroiderer/textile artist, I bought this book for inspiration as I was very tempted by the illustration on the front. However, I felt that the book didn't live up to the promise of its cover, as it is very basic, with not very much inspiration at all; experienced embroiderers may be disappointed with the book.
That said, there is nothing wrong with this book - it is absolutely ideal for a beginner who would like to progress from basic embroidery to something more adventurous. The book is well illustrated, with clear, basic instructions. Those requiring a little help with new techniques would probably find this book very helpful.
enticing but not inspirational
Textiles are used in innovative ways in this book, combined with stitching and embellishments to create unique finished pieces. Twenty five projects use different techniques to achieve a varied look. The best design I thought was the one of the cover, I found the other ideas a little disappointing. The handling of mixed media is superb. The way Lucille uses fabrics and stitches is incredible.
If you have a knowledge of the techniques or are an experienced stitcher looking to develop your ideas further, you will find this book useful. There is a small section on hand and machine embroidery and a couple of knitting swatches. You can hand or machine sew the projects. Find out how to use yarn, embroidery, fabric, applique and fusibles to create your own art. Learn how to back, finish and mount pieces.
The projects in this book are easy to follow with clear instructions. The book is well presented and illustrated.
colourful but very disappointing
I found this book very disappointing. Better suited to a school room than a serious stitcher. This will teach me to look before I buy in future
