Photographer Jo Ellen Hathaway thought she'd escaped the house called Sanctuary long ago. She'd spent her loneliest years there, after the sudden, unexplained disappearance of her mother. But now someone is sending her pictures; strange, candid close-ups, culminating in the most shocking portrait of all - a photo of her mother, naked, beautiful and dead. Jo decides she must return to face her bitterly estranged family: her father, who has never recovered from the loss of his wife, and her brother and sister. But while her presence stirs up old resentments, Jo finds solace with architect Nathan Delaney - who is also facing his own demons. But while Jo and Nathan look for a way to lay the past to rest, a more sinister presence is watching the Hathaway family with interest. It seems Sanctuary may be the most dangerous place of all...

Excellent stuff... keeps you guessing right to the end!
This was the first Nora Roberts book I ever read.. and it sent me straight out looking for more. It is an excellent story, cleverly written with loads of suspense making you eager to turn the pages, while at the same time hoping never to reach the end of the book. Best of all for me, you don't find out who the 'baddie' is until the last few pages of the book. Let's have more like this please!
A classic Nora Roberts!
This book is a classic Roberts. Jo and Nathan are fascinating characters who have their own demons to deal with, as once again people are being murdered - like Jo's mother - on the island of Sanctuary where Jo and her sister and brother grew up. The entwining of Jo's and Nathan's lives only adds to the suspense as does the fact that Jo is the killer's prime target!
another one to enjoy in one sitting
A fantastically written romantic suspense, with emphasis on both romance and suspense. this is a fast paced story with more than a couple of characters. Set on an island off the coast of Savannah, Sanctury is Jo Ellen Hathaway's childhood home. though lushly beautiful, the memorires of Sanctury are not all good. a child hood tragedy means she prefers the wide world to her island home, and her job as a photographer allows to travel all over. but events force Jo to come back to the family house and she is made to deal with the past when Nathan Delaney, an architecht with a mysterious secret, comes to stay on the island. However as the sparks fly between the two, both are unaware of a danger that will threaten everyone they care for.
this is vintage Nora Roberts, with the two main charcters having a great chemistry between them, an extended family having crucial roles and suspense to keep you guessing until the very end. throughly recommended!
