An excellent beginner's guide, buy it before your parrot!
Mattie Sue Athan writes from her 30 year experience of studying and working with parrots. She introduces a companion parrot as more than just a pet and leaves the reader under no illusion of how much time and effort is needed to look after these intelligent, complex creatures. Alongside funny and moving true stories she describes the different varieties of parrots and how to chose the right one for you. The book covers the general care and developement of parrots and educates the reader in how to encourage the welcome behaviour and prevent the unwelcome such as screaming, biting, feather-plucking etc. If you're only going to buy one parrot book, this might be the one for you.
