Editorial Reviews

From the Author
Presenting tattoos as fine art, with an ancient history.
When I wrote The New Tattoo in 1994, the trend in body modification was just breaking into mainstream society, yet there were no mainstream books available to anyone interested in exploring the subject. As a journalist who had written about tattooing from a purely observational standpoint, I thought it would be timely - and interesting - to publish a longer book about it, treated as an art form and presented as such. Hence, The New Tattoo - in which every tattoo is high quality, and the fascinating history of this ancient art form is presented, I think, succinctly.

Customer Reviews

Simply Beautiful.5
The New Tattoo is nothing short of stunning. As a reference piece, it is very well researched and extremely representative of tattoo's various genres and artists. In terms of asthetics, the book is simply beautiful, boasting lustrous color and classy design. Of course, the highlight of the book is the tattoos, which are selected well and illustrate some of tattoo's finest works. This book is ideal for anyone who loves to wear art, and it is also a warm introduction for anyone not initiated into the world of ink slinging. The cover art by Fauser and Zueleta is worth the price alone. Just a gorgeous volume.

Very good, perfect for an introduction into tattoos.4
This book has proved to be invaluable to me, both for research into the designs and styles for my tattoos and also as an introductory reference to the history and cultural aspects of tattooing when doing student research. It proves to be an excellent insight with fantastic full color photos and information on further reading and What, Where and How questions answered.

worth your money!5
this book is worth its money for the photographs alone. it features works done by some of the best tattooers of today. (e.g. don ed hardy & leo zulueta.) some other talents have been left out. but featuring them all would be near to impossible. if your main interest is looking at lots of tattoo photographs and are also interested in historical motives, i'd recommend hanky panky's "1000 tattoos".
