Short, cheap and really good
Full of beautiful pictures and they are tempting too. I felt like taking my shears start pruning the trees in the garden right away. After an introduction, design principles, bonsai styles are given with actual photographs. Useful tools, suitable species are also introduced and how to create a bonsai, caring and propagating are all taken into account. It is probably the best for the ones just looking for tips. Only 72 pages long and cheap...
Style but no substance
Firstly I don't hate this book, it is arranged well and it has lots of pretty pictures of what can be done. Unfortunatley it had no real instruction. If this was a book about how to drive it would have lots of pictures of muscle cars, high speed pursuits and stunts but give you the instructions as "you put petrol here, this pedal makes it go faster. Congratulations here is your driving licence".
Too Brief
I bought this book, being a complete newbie to Bonsai's I was hoping for it to be more informative and have more instruction on maintenence and care.
It is well laid out and has many inspiring, pretty pictures of Bonsai but no real substance to it.
I needed some real instruction on the care of individual species and meticulous instructions on root pruning and arrangement... needless to say this book didnt provide what I need.
To be honest I would look elsewhere if you are serious about learning the art of bonsai.
