Customer Reviews

For a beginner...3
I have just bought my first lovebird. This title gives a valuable insight in the care and raising of lovebirds. Unfortunately it states that the species should not be expected to ride around on the shoulders of children nor alight onto their fingers. This is completely untrue. Having owned my lovebird for less than a week, mine is already 'riding my shoulder' by choice. So whilst its a help for feeding time and general care it's not a true reflection of the subject bird.

Misleading and Incomplete2
I have worked with birds of prey and exotic birds, and have owned budgerigars, for years. Hence I have quite a collection of "owners manuals"-type books and "know my way" round birds. In comparison to the other manuals I own, this guide is often misleading and incomplete, for example it gives no clue as to how to age birds properly, a very important factor when buying. In the UK, the RSPB publish guides on owning pet birds - buy one of these if you can find one, as they are much better. The information contained in this book might apply in the US (where the author is from) but it is misleading and unhelpful to UK readers. I spoke to my vet about one of the dietary aspects mentioned in the book and he was horrified by it!
