Acrylic Painting Techniques
As a beginner who soon ran up against the limited explanations in starter guides, I bought this book to understand the medium better. Stephen Quiller's paintings are mainly landscapes in intense colours. He uses these to explain many techniques, often with good detail on just how it was done. I did sometimes find I could have done with more detail, but he is better in this respect than any other book I have found so far. His section on colour mixing, with a colour wheel showing where named acrylic colours sit, is brilliant.Want to blend from cerulean blue through neutral to orange - cadmium red light will do it, not cad orange. I wish the book were 50 pages longer - it would be well worth paying extra.
Acrylic Painting Techniques
Having previously bought Alwyn Crawshaws book 'Learn to paint acryics' I found this book a little dissapointing.
There did not seem to be much in the way of help for someone wanting to start out with a blank sheet and produce something to be proud of. Crawshaws book does.
Here there is lots of technical stuff but painting is more about picking up the brush and getting started.
