Comprehensive and well illustrated5
A comprehensive coverage of palms, this encyclopaedia claims to include photographs of palms which have never before appeared on such a book. Following the introduction there are over 220pp of photographs of palms, and a further 236pp entitled Palm Descriptions A-Z. The book concludes with notes on pronunciation, landscape lists, seed germination notes, a glossary, bibliography and index.

In total the book describes around 890 species and includes over 900 photographs. In addition to tropical palms, the book includes many palms capable of withstanding temperatures as low as -15C (5F), so is useful even for gardens in the UK. The individual palm descriptions are comprehensive and cover natural habitat, a physical description and notes useful for cultivation; the text is readily accessible.

This is a large and handsome volume beautifully illustrated; it ranks as one of the most useful books on the subject in my library.
