Definitive Source
This book is the definitive source for information about
psychedelic drugs. Chapter by chapter, Stafford takes
the reader through the world of psychedics, categorized by
chemical similarity. He includes traditional uses by indigenous
groups, as well as the Western history of use, short as it is.
This book is a rare source of straight informaion-- no
Drug War propeganda here. A must for any seeker.
Academic, yet fun
This book has its faults - the quality of the mono pictures is low, and it perhaps could do with a slight update in some chapters. But it's written by someone with a passion for the subject who isn't just some idiot stoner who likes boasting about getting ripped. There are plenty of facts and figures, and even diagrams about molecules - which isn't as daft as it sounds, as some people appreciate knowing what they might be about to put into their system. I would say this is worth considerably more than a lot of trip reports on erowid.org, though I can see that others won't wish to shell out a lot on a book.
A soon to be classic
A wonderful book for all interested in botany, ethnobotany, medicine, religion and anthropology. It is clearly laid out, describing all the major groups of psychoactive chemicals and plants. As a university botany student, I would highly recommend this book. My best purchase this month!
