Customer Reviews
An Indispensable Delight
This charming guidebook isn't a mere catalogue of things to see, but a set of walks (to be accomplished at great speed, apparently) that opens the heart of Italy's finest city to the visitor. I have done each of them on more than one occasion, although on my first visit I found the pace at which one had to pass along these packed itineraries as breathtaking as the marvels Rupert Scott presents for one's edification. The tone is very collegiate, with hints of the two-edged compliments of England's senior common rooms, and the author seems very well read in his selected subject, although he at times goes a little far in imposing his taste on the reader. As well as a guide, it would also be welcomed by anyone who knows the city of Florence well, and wants a bedside book that will carry one back to the banks of the Arno, in order to ensure the pleasantest of dreams.
