Review
The author has 30 years of tricks and techniques to give to you. How to set up shop covers all the requirements ( including legal ones) for setting up a spray shop. Spray guns are then covered in detail. Preperation for paint is covered including rubbing down, different types of primer, and how to prepare fiberglass. Next is dirt, the final frontier. Dirt is the enemy of a quality paint job. Its control is important. Paint coats and then sealer are covered in resonable detail. Basic painting is covered before moving on the kandy type paints. Graphics are demonstrated from marking out to final painting. Pinstriping is covered and the book finishes with a few pages on flames etc. --Model Engineers' Workshop

A good basic guide to the world of custom painting, starting with an informative chapter about the author himself giving you an insight to his 30 years experience, techniques and tricks followed by another six chapters ranging from how to set up a paint shop through to colour painting sequences to custom and beyond. With over 250 photos showing you how to strip paint, prepare surfaces, repair dents, basic and advanced paint jobs, applying polish and clear-cat and the tricky art of painting and engine. A book that is worth it's weight in gold if used correctly. --Pinstriping UK, August 2009

Over 250 photos in this book show you how to use plastic filler, prepare for paint, shoot Kandies & Pearls, do a basecoat-clearcoat paint job, do flames, tapeouts, and artwork and apply a marble paint job. In this fourth edition Kustom Painting Secrets Jon shares 30 years of experience - painting everything from kustom cars to hot rods and motorcycles. Learn how to set up your shop, how to apply primer, and how to put on the final topcoat. In the Shop sequences provide a hands-on look at a variety of projects from simple paint application to complex art work (documented with both color and black and white photography). Follow along as Jon does tape-outs on a dragster, and flames on a set of Harley-Davidson gas tanks --Products That Work dot com

Self promotion or custom promotion!2
Some good painting techniques but let down by the constant advertisement sales pitch with regards to his line of House of Kolor paints. If you want to learn about customising this book is boarderline, if you want to learn about customising using House of Kolor paints then this is the book for you.

A great book for the price!3
I enjoyed the book. it has a lot of color photographs and ideas. It covers cars and motorcycles too. Not for the novice really. The main complaint is that they are trying to pitch their own line of paint that the author manufactures called Kustom Kolor. I'm sure it is great paint but I didn't buy the book for a history of his company or to learn how great his paint is. It does have a lot of good tips though. A good buy for the price. The author is a very famous auto repainter.
