An inspiring atlas for kids (and adults)
This is quite different from the atlases I came accross as a child. Inside the front cover is the only picture with all the world countries on it, with the pacific ocean at the centre and Europe over to the far west side. On the back page is a spread of all the flags of the different countries of the world.
The text starts with a bit about the solar system and where earth fits in and then looks at climate and population. The main section is then maps of different regions. For example, for North America, there is a double page with a satellite view of North America. This is followed by double pages of Western Canada and Alaska, Eastern Canada,USA Northeast, USA South, USA Midwest, USA Southwest, Mexico. On each of these pages there is a map in the middle with cities, borders, roads etc marked on it. Around the edge are photos of people, animals, buildings with accompanying text to give a flavour of that part of the world.
I think the pictures will appeal to a pre-literate child, while the text will give older children a lot to learn about. Each page has a "Did you know" section with interesting facts. This book will appeal to my children for many years.

My 6 year old nephew absolutely loves this atlas and takes it everywhere with him, even to sports camp! Highly recommended.
