Product Description

Former intelligence officer and one-time instructor at the British Army School of Sniping, Phil Mason is struggling to make ends meet as a private investigator when he's contacted by his former M15 liaison officer. The overstretched security service needs all the help it can get hunting down members of al-Qaeda terror cells in the UK - and Mason needs the cash. But in the murky intelligence world of smoke and mirrors, nothing is what it seems. As a routine surveillance operation escalates into a full-blown international crisis, Mason must come to terms with the unthinkable: there must be a traitor within Britain's security forces. Entering a desperate race against time to identify and avert a major terrorist threat, Mason must hastily re-hone his old counter-sniper skills as he returns to the business he swore he had left behind forever. The killing game.

Customer Reviews

Action thriller, well researched and well written5
This is a tale from the ex-forces turned lone wolf agent genre. Terence Stron has written several good solid thrillers, not the best at suspense as the plots are usually easy to predict, but having said that they are very entertaining. This one follows a former intelligence officer and one-time instructor at the British Army School of Sniping, Phil Mason is struggling to make ends meet as a private investigaor when he's contacted by his former M15 liaison officer.
The story goes that the overstretched security service needs all the help it can get hunting down members of al-Qaeda terror cells in the UK - and Mason needs the cash. But in the murky intelligence world of smoke and mirrors, nothing is what it seems. As a routine surveillance operation escalates into a full-blown international crisis.
If you are a fan of ex-special forces genre, `Recoil` by Andy Mcnab is a similar tale, full of twist and turns, lies and betrayal in the world of espionage. Chris Ryan fans will love Terence Strong books, not just this one but all of them. The 18th Brigade, `Blister` and the Soft Target thrillers by Conrad Jones are more violent, but follow the Special Forces, terrorist plot.
Terrence Strong has packed this tale with wild action and trademark military tradecraft, if you read this book then you will have to agree that he is a fine writter. As far as military thrillers go, this one will not let you down.

solid thriller3
The author has been around for quite a while and was amongst the first to produce SAS type thriller, many years before the McNabs and the Ryans. I have read all his books and enjoyed all of them.
In President Down we have an ex special forces sniper acting as a free-lance investigator for the UK Security Service. What starts as routine background checks escalates into an attack on the President that may be unstoppable....
Fast moving and well written, this is a solid thriller. Some good understanding of how (I presume) the Security Service operate and some good characters. What pulled it back to a three star was I did guess a number of things a little too early on and it did not quite do enough to differentiate itself from the many similar books out there.
But if you like the McNab/Ryan stuff then it is a good bet you will like this.

What A Great Page Turner5
Buy This Book, It Keeps you On The Edge Of Your Seat From Page One.
