For anyone who wants to know how buildings stay up...
...and why they sometimes don't! This book is just brilliant for anyone of any age who wants to understand the stresses on buildings, and the strategies used to overcome them. I loved it! It explains the forces working on buildings, the strengths and weaknesses of different building materials, and the structural designs used to create durable and safe architecture. It also looks at buildings with design problems and how they can be improved. There are lots of simple activities for kids to see the principles in action, which would make great school projects, but this book is definitely not just for children. It could be interesting and useful for engineering, architecture, and building students, or simply anyone interested in buildings.
