...the Jolly Green Giant saves the world.....
Oliver Stone used two books from which to construct his sprawling fantasy that was 'JFK' - this, of course was one of them.
Herein we have Garrison's meandering megalomania interspersed with liberal helpings of paranoia and persecution complexes.
The Jolly Green Giant will have his readers believe that he was the only honourable man alive on planet earth between 1966 and 1968. The US government, the FBI, the CIA, the media and the lady who ran the concession desk at the cinema were all out to 'get him'.
His ruthless pursuit and destruction of an innocent man seems to count for nothing in the eyes of his many acolytes. "Garrison remains the only man ever to bring a prosecution in the entire Kennedy case!", they all trumpet. Yes he was, and it was fraudulent and vindictive. He had no case and he knew it. Shaw was acquitted in under one hour!
For readers who are intellectually demanding of themselves, the following books will give you the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth about this dreadful episode:
American Grotesque - James Kirkwood
Plot Or Politics? - James & Wardlaw
The Garrison Case - Milton Brener
and
False Witness - Patricia Lambert
For readers who are not intellectually demanding of themselves, then this book and the JFK film will do very nicely, I'm sure.
I'm quite amazed that only two people have reviewed this book before me, especially considering what an affront to history it is.
Interesting and disturbing about the Kennedy-assassination.
This book is about Jim Garrison, the district attorney of New Orleans, who is the only man to charge someone for conspiring to kill JFK. The book reveals how Oswald was framed, and how the evidence points to the fact that he never fired a weapon on 23.November 1963. During the Garrison trial versus Clay Shaw, he subpeonad the never-before-seen video which was shot by Abraham Zapruder, and it clearly show how Kennedy was hit from the front. This is evidence that there were at least two shooters and thus a conspiracy. The book is disturbing in the sense that so much surrounding the JFK-assassination was covered up, and still is. We'll hopefully have all the answers when the US government unlock the files concerning the case in 2039. Garrison gives us an impression of who is behind the assassination and why they wanted JFK dead. Well written, interesting and recommendable.
Second only to "1984" in important books of the 20th century
A must read for those interested in how the world operates. Full of hard-earned facts about the Kennedy assassination and very well presented. Jim Garrison poured his life into investigating this murder case.
