Editorial Reviews

From the Author
Daniel (Abd al-Hayy) Moore, author of the book, describes.
The book is a joyful expedition through the origins and philosophical /aesthetic aspects of rock gardens, beginning with Taoist gardens in China and meandering, in a raked gravel way, to those of Japan. The text is augmented with stunning photographic visuals. The author, a poet, studied Zen with Shunryu Suzuki of San Francisco in the early 60's, and in writing the book recalled the long stillnesses, the wisps of sandal incense, the eternal quiet of early mornings sitting in zazen, and the text of the book evokes these along with the historical and physical descriptions of rock gardens through time.

Customer Reviews

Wonderful book, mediocre garden kit!3
If the Zen Gardening Book part of this book/kit combination makes it into your local library, check out a copy and bask in the meditations, creativity and musings of the author. The kit is uninspiring and actually degrades the lofty consciousness inspired by the book. Use your imagination, save the bucks, and create your own Zen garden using sand and rocks and wood that speak to you.

SUCCULENT DAISY'S5
I once read an article entitled the love of a an old popsicle stick. This reminded me of the story of the drunken dwarf who could not stand to look at his big right toe. I decided to incorporate this into my rock garden. I took a small can of bud light and dressed it with various cabbage patch kid's clothing. Then I named him slick dick the wildest cat in the south. he giggled and I wlaked to the store with him under my arm pit. He giggled. This is the story of the dwarf stuck in the zen rock garden
