Previous Review Sounds Very Jaded
As an "American House Wife" it is easy to take offense to the previous review! It is downright wrong to think that everyone of us live in some "gigantic American" house and are able to, or want to, duplicate the ideas in this book. Most American women live very modestly, in small houses with cozy rooms, in order to stay at home with their children and provide what we believe is the best environment for them. It is wrong to judge a book by your misguided notion of the author's country!!

Is this book over-the-top? Sure! It's an IDEA book...it's fun! It is full of cute ideas that are meant to spark your imagination, like perhaps adding a little playspace under an attic eave where there is room for tiny chairs. Do you honestly think that the average American flips through the book, hires an architect, and duplicates those photos? And what is wrong with a little color or "funny paintings" on the wall? It's for a child, not an adult! Maybe the book would be more enjoyable if you lightened up and didn't let your prejudice of our culture cloud the point of an imaginative and cute book!!

Over the top
As a working mom living in a small city apartment in Copenhagen this book was a waste of money. I guess that if you are an American house wife with nothing better to do than redecorate the walls in your childrens room with funny paintings, building them a tree house in your gigantic garden and make your house the living center around your kids - you are among the target group for this book.

The book is devided into five chapters: Houses made for children (with suggestion of hiring an architect), Bedrooms and baths, Places built just for kids, Rooms for the whole family and Playing outside.

All the ideas are are based on gigantic American living where kids rooms are the size of my whole apartment. The pictures, style, colours, furniture etc. are just plain awfull. I wouldn't even call it style but style confussion. Apparently the author is an award-winning magazine editor. I look at the designed rooms and long for some simplicity and Scandinavian style where things aren't so over the top - as in this book. I must keep in mind never to buy another American interior decoration book.
