Not Impressed.1
Although the author is a vet and supposedly has more knowledge than the layman, his home cooked pet meals include milk, cheese and eggs which are all known to cause health problems in some animals. He advocates the avoidance of cereals which I agree with. It's all common sense though. If the wild animal doesn't eat these foods, you shouldn't feed them to domestic pets. He condemns pet food manufacturers, but many of them now recognise that some animals don't tolerate cereals, eggs and dairy products, also animal by products, and don't include them in their products. He probably overstates the problems caused by vaccinations too. I personally don't have my animals vaccinated on an annual basis, but still think they're better off protected, though the author also casts doubt on the effectiveness of vaccinations. It all seems well intentioned but doubtful information which I personally would dismiss as unhelpful.

I bought this book because my boxer cross has been suffering with urinary incontinence for years and the propalin to try and control it has now stopped working. I read online that cereals and grains in pet foods can cause incontinence so I thought I'd give the home cooked diet a shot and let me tell you I am completely amazed by the results. Both my dogs have been on the diet for about a month now and my boxer has had only 2 accidents, so far one being when my husband gave her some cheap dog biscuits and the other I haven't quite narrowed it down yet but I think it was due to beef. I'm keeping her on chicken now so it's still an experimental phase. I was at my wits end and was about to pay an extortionate amount of money to take her to a specialist but I've now even managed to take her off the propalin and she's done great for over two weeks now. This book is pretty easy to follow with recipes and supplement recommendations for not only dogs but cats as well. I never would have thought a home cooked diet would have made such a difference but I continue to be amazed and my dogs are very happy with their new diet. It's costing me loads in groceries but I would have spent a lot more on vet bills, so fingers crossed the incontinence doesn't return!
