Synopsis
From the history of photography and how to shoot wedding portraits to creating stylish albums and working with digital output, everything a wedding photographer needs to know is included in this all-encompassing manual. Photographers are provided with a shooting guide that walks them through the wedding day and offers advice on a variety of topics - including integrating detail, capturing the walk down the aisle, working in and out of doors, and finding and illustrating key relationships. Traditional and in methods of wedding photography are depicted in an educational timeline that explores past, present, and future trends in the field; current photo manipulation software, such as Adobe Photoshop and compatible plug-ins, are also discussed. Emphasis is placed on client interaction both before and after the big day, transforming prints into fine arts products, and developing and fine-tuning a creative shooting style.

Not enough about wedding photography
I do not understand why anyone has given this book a favourable review. Its 125 pages explain little about wedding photography. They are focused so much about general photographic issues - from how to colour calibrate your screen to how to compose shots using the rule of thirds - that those photographers wanting to learn specifically about weddings can only be disappointed.
I bought this book because I have been asked to photograph a wedding and, as a landscape photographer, I know there is a lot I need to learn. I am particuarly worried that my camera won't cope with the low-light conditions and wonder if my lens selection is up to the task. Unfortunately, the section about equipment doesn't help. It merely says that wedding photographers should buy better equipment as they get more work. Such an obvious statement is not helpful.
The selection of topics is poor and the subject matter is so thinly spread that it is difficult to imagine any serious amateur learning anything from it. In particular, the author fails to offer advice for really tricky situations (what are you supposed to do if it rains when you're supposed to be taking group shots outdoors?) What a let down.
Good book letting you see inside the photographer's head.
There is no doubt that Marcus Bell is an incredible photographer and a master of the art of wedding photography. The images are superb and well printed/laid out. The book, however, should not be bought as a "how to" book, it's more about the thought process and an explanation of what he saw in the image than a technical explanation of shooting and processing.
essential for future wedding photographers
I have read this book and am considering purchasing it, although it doesnt quite deal with the absolute basics of wedding photography which i was looking for, its a very indepth and valuble resource for anyone who is shooting a wedding, be it a complete amateur or experienced photographer.
Theres some nice photoshop techniques detailed along with a lot of practical tips, if i had to make one criticism, the first few chapters do seem a little too personal and even boastful maybe, but overall its a fantastic book. Complete newcomers to wedding photography may find a less 'artistic' book useful to back this one up.
