Competent manga
To start with, this manga collection is mearly a companion to the animé series, and does not act as a sequel or prequel but is instead another series of stories involving the Bebop crew. It is also helpful if you have watched the animé before reading the manga but it's not essential.
I'll begin with the positives. The animation manages to match the quick, fluid action scenes of the animé and each character is well-drawn, easily resembling their on-screen incarnations. The stories themselves are very reminiscent of the more light-hearted episodes of the animé and capture each characters' uniqueness effectively. The classic Bebop style of humour is also present and works well in this manga collection.
However, my main complaint is that the manga series doesn't really go very far. All of the stories, as mentioned above, are light-hearted and none capture the darker side of Bebop or develop a compelling storyline like the animé series managed so well. This is the kind of manga you read during your spare time or if you're feeling down after the end of the animé series but not the kind you really get really involved with. All in all, a nicely presented manga collection but don't be surprised if you forget about it straight after.
astonishing
Cowboy Bebop is quite possibly the greatest anime of all time
Like all works of genius, cowboy bebop is difficult to categorise, maybe even as it itself somewhat arrogantly states, genre defining. It follows the somewhat accidental adventures of Spike Spiegel, bounty hunter extrodinaire with a ...shadowy past... Don't be put off by this formulaic sounding dull description though. BeBop is colourful, funny, exciting, sometimes even heartbreaking. And it features what i'd class as the greatest ending of any series ever.
If you haven't seen it, buy it.
Amazingly good read
This is the first ever manga I read and it's simply amazing!
It's been a while since I last read it so parts of it are a little fuzzy to me but there are some stories in these mangas that I won't forget.
None of the stories you'll read are in the anime, plus there are some volumes in the collection where the characters have different personalities compared to their anime counterpart.
I currently read a few mangas now and have to say this collection is a good place to start for anyone looking to start reading mangas, or those who are fans of the series or if you like reading mangas in general you won't be disappointed.
