Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is the number one cause of irregular periods and infertility in women. It affects 10 per cent of women worldwide. PCOS is a condition of overproduction of androgens by the ovaries. In essence, the ovaries produce too much testosterone, causing abnormal hair growth, irregular or absent menstruation/ovulation, acne and small benign cysts on the ovaries. If left undetected, PCOS can lead to cancer, heart disease and diabetes. While researchers haven't determined the cause of PCOS, they know it is linked to insulin resistance, which causes obesity. This book contains information about PCOS and a diet to help combat it.

Review
A great and totally up-tp-date book on PCOS that leaves you feeling empowered and motivated to manage PCOS. The use of case studies is wonderful and helps you to realise you are not alone and that symptoms of PCOS can be managed. The science in the first two chapters was confusing on first reading and did require a second read. However the rest of the book is easy to follow. The chapters on the symptoms of PCOS provide answers and re-assurance while the chapters on managing the symptoms empower and inspire you. I found the chapter on diet and nutrition particularly useful. This book provided me with the explanations and help that I required and had not found in older books on PCOS. --customer

I beleive if you want to deal with PCOS , u must know the basis of this frustrating diseas. Besides, for all the women who have diagnose of PCOS - remember u r not alone to fight! --f yee
This book is well written and contains plenty of useful information. Contrary to Harris and Cheung's series on PCOS - that focus very much on natural remedies - it also gives detailed information about medical treatments currently available and tells you where to search for reputable and reliable brands of herbs and supplements. --a customer
