Customer Reviews

Sadly not the resource I hoped for2
I had previously flicked through the 7th and 8th book in this series in Waterstones and remember being initially impressed. So I thought this 'best of the best' edition would be the one to go for. I hadn't seen it on the shelves before ordering it online.

The book isn't all terrible, but it is somewhat off the mark. I quickly started to notice the low quality of the images - many are low resolution (noticeable pixelation) and the colour reproduction is lacklustre. Any vibrancy of the originals are mostly lost.

Other not inconsiderable niggles include a lack of background for most example work and only minimal text for the others. Each example artwork does have a small number of bullet points detailing equipment/software used, stock printed on, clients, designers, etc. However, the details are not consistent.

Then, finally, there is the choice of brochure samples. If this is the 'best of the best', I dread to think what would appear in the 'worst of the worst'. A few are relatively inspiring, but too many look seriously dated or bland.

I bought this book to inspire me. Sadly it only does that in small doses and merely annoys me in larger spoon-fulls.

is this really the best of the best?3
a very patchy book. some nice stuff but seemingly by the same few designers. and there's some shockers - perhaps some of the designs just aren't wearing old age very well, once fashionable, now embarassingly out of date. perhaps there's a moral there for all designers - beware of fashion...
