Mixed-media collage artists are embracing, unearthing and reconstructing the flotsam and jetsam of modern life with abandon, integrating discards along with a range of art materials and novel techniques to create compelling, new works. Original, idiosyncratic and delightful, this approach to making art is inspiring and can have eye-catching results. It can also have its own set of technical challenges. "Mixed-Media Collage" takes you into the studios of five talented mixed-media artists: Laurinda Bedingfield, Barbara De Pirro, Paula Grasdal, Sharon McCartney, and Teesha Moore. The artists reveal their own step-by-step processes, offer tips on working with unconventional materials, and share their insights on creativity and finding inspiration. A deluxe gallery features forty never-before-published mixed-media pieces, complete with detailed descriptions of the work and the materials used to create them.

An Exploration....
Like any art book there are bits of pages you love and some others that are ok, This book is one of these but the pages I love over ride me saying that this is an ok book. Mostly I love this book because of the chapter `At Play with Teesha Moore I just love Teesha work the colours, the busyness of the page and I just seem to fall in love with all her work. The book also features Claudine Hellmuth, Jonathan Talbot and Sharon Mc Cartney.
I like this book but I have to admit I prefer Holly Harrison's other book `Altered Book Collaborative Journals' I felt this book was the better the book was much rawer, the art work more inspiring, Beautifully picked art work, more unique and original and I felt that Collaborative Journals was a better example of Mixed Media and Collage.
Kick-start a diversion.
I use a huge mix of media in my work, so it is always interesting to see what's 'out there'. In this book Holly Harrison has collected together a superbly diverse collection of work from a dozen or so painters, printers and stitchers. Layer upon layer of paint, pencil, ephemera, photos, gesso, trinkets and charms are combined to produce mysterious and interesting visual stories. Sometimes all techniques overlap so it is impossible pigeon-hole any of it.
Kick-start a little diversion away from what you normally do - read this book, be daring, play awhile and you'll be surprised where it will lead you.
