Customer Reviews

A curate's egg3
Be warned - the writer of this book is a Christian. This can come as a surprise if you're not expecting it in a book about an aesthetic that arises out of Zen Buddhism. As an atheist, I found his assertions about God, as if he's MET the bloke, profoundly irritating. He also fancies himself as a writer, and even worse, a poet. The first 10 or so pages are completely unreadable, but after that, there are some very interesting passages, mixed with some really dreadful ones. I would have liked to give it 2.5 stars really, as about half of it is pretty good and quite useful. I'm not sorry I bought it, and it's a useful adjunct to other books about wabi-sabi, particularly since it deals with philosophy rather than aesthetics, but I'm also glad I paid just pence for it rather than full price. Living Wabi Sabi by Taro Gold is FAR better if you want to try to incorporate wabi sabi ino your daily life.
