Customer Reviews

Great for budding artists!5
Scratch and Sketch books are excellent. After looking at a few of the other titles (Princess Bella, Travel Scratch and Sketch) I decided to buy 'Under the Sea', and am very pleased with my choice. The theme makes it easy to fill pages with bubbles and small fish/starfish/jellyfish which are relatively easy and interesting to draw meaning you can customise the designs given. In response to the question above, yes, the pages are meant to be black (there are 20, the black yoou see is merely a coating, underneath there are a mix of multi-coloured swirl pattern and one-colour holographic backgrounds) - you use the wooden stylus supplied li a pen to 'draw' your image. The black coating scratches off and becomes the 'background' of your finished work of art. All black drawing pages are accompanied by example drawings (and some information on the creature in question) on the opposite page to copy or use as a guide for shape and then you can customise the patterns (for example you could draw a spotted fish instead of a striped one). Subjects include Coral Reefs, Sharks, Jellyfish, Emporer Angelfish and Hermit Crabs amongst others. A great buy, with ordinary paper at the back to practise your drawings before using the 20 black coated pages, which brings me to the one drawback - you only get one shot: you can't erase or correct anything on the black pages - once the coating's been scratched off that's it, so I wouldn't recommend the books for anyone under 7 or 8 to reduce the tear factor if something goes wrong(though the back cover will tell you it's suitable for over 5's). One final note - the black coating does not magically disappear, it will be all over you table or carpet as it gets scratched off so it's best to put the book on a tray, then when the child is finished you can tip the scratchings in the bin!

Dino Dudes5
It is a question really as I have in the passed had the Dino Dudes book and my little boy loved it. I then ordered the Solar System and the Wild Safari book to take on a long haul plane journey and when the boys opened them the pages were just all black, there was no outline to follow like in the Dino Dudes. Is this how they should be? Amazon upon our return from holiday replaced the books for me and they were exactly the same. I am now looking at the Princess Bella and Under the Sea and Ancient Egypt books to order for Christmas stocking fillers but don't want to until I know if they have the outlines to follow. Please help me, Amazon were unable to answer the question for me. Thank you. Denise Poolton
