Product Description

Socks are one of the most popular projects among experienced knitters, yet they can mystify beginning knitters. Socks require techniques not typically used in simple projects such as scarves and hats, but these techniques are as easy to learn as the basic knit and purl stitches. In fact, you can knit your very own socks, and veteran sock knitter Ann Budd shows you how. Each step - from casting on stitches for the leg to working the misunderstood Kitchener stitch at the toe - is broken down into its basic elements and illustrated with clear photographs and drawings. Along the way you will learn the fundamentals of sock knitting, a vareity of ways to achieve similar results, and a host of time-proven tips that ensure success. Included are basic instructions for knitting socks at five different sizes and for five different gauges. Whether you want to knit a pair of delicate dress socks for your ten year old niece, a pair of sturdy boot socks for your older brother, or a pair of bulky slipper socks for yourself, we've got your feet covered. So get started knitting socks - soon you will have made your first sock...then its mate. Then, before you know it, you will be your own sock-knitting machine.

About the Author
Ann Budd learned to knit in 1968 while attending a local school when her family lived in Switzerland for a year. Although she couldn't speak German, Ann immediately took to the language of knitting. She went on to get a graduate degree in the sciences, but abandoned it for a career in yarn. Ann has been at Interweave Press for 17 years. She has three boys who love the idea that their mother writes books, and who have learned to preface every request with "when you finish that row..."

This is the sock book for beginners!!4
If you've never knitted socks before and have been afraid of even trying - and you find the idea of using double-pointed needles rather daunting? Then fear no more, as this book guides you through sock knitting and also teaches you about using the circular needle if that is your preference. So if you get any comments from reviewers who are experienced knitters moaning that it is too basic, take note of the title: Getting started, says it all.

Geting Started Knitting Socks5
This is an absolutely great first sock book and one I keep referring to for my basic sock pattern. There are patterns for the gauge of yarn you have in your yarn stash so you can always find a pattern - and all the other information you may need, including lacey patterns, cable etc.

Good if you've never knitted socks3
I am currently on my first pair of socks and got this book for christmas. It is nice enough, but feels almost too basic. All the patterns are for cuff down socks, with heel flaps. It does deal with using different weights of yearn, and also adding pattern and texture etc., but I did hope that there might have been a toe up sock in there and some short row heels. I will use it because there are some handy tips in there and also some nice patterns using some cable details. I would say though that if you have already knitted socks, I don't think this book is for you.
