Gadgets and Death
Book rating should have the option of 10 STARS as this would definitely deserves them.Incredible and stunning are just 2 words to describe barely the first chapter of this amazing novel. Still not more than 1/4 of the way through this is most definitely a nod for a great movie. After reading Hawke which would bury Dirk Pitt in an instant I was expecting a lot from this book and it most certainly delivers on every point. Great hero great story one of the most nasty villains in any novel and brilliant inventive and original ways of killing people if you like Matthew Reilly novels you will lap this up in one sitting, just hope Pirate his new novel is half as good as this one.
No Escape!
Once you've opened the door, you're in and you're not going anywhere so get comfortable. A fantasic read, very well done and a great deal of fun. Alex Hawke is a Bond figure for the new century and gives this genre a much needed infusion of fresh blood (not all of it his I might add)! Highly recommended.
No Holiday Romance
Alot of what "Kingbeard" has said is true, but in my opinion only to a certain degree. I picked this book up on holiday on the off chance that it would pass the time when the sun went in. It did pass the time and I got a certain amount of pleasure out of this book knowing that the good guy was going to win in the end.
The plot was an interesting one and apart from the missile that followed the first victim around streets, alleyways and canals, it was reasonably believable. The characterisation of Hawke's American colleague kept me amused but I couldn't help thinking that the author wasn't sure what rank to give the Scotland Yard detective, as it seemed to vary from chapter to chapter. However I did manage to finish it and therefore my review is based on the whole book.
When all is said and done it is not in the same league as Ed McBain, Harry Patterson or James Clavell, but I shall try another Ted Bell novel before I read a my first Clive Cussler novel.
