Great, but meant for larger gardens only
This is a really good book in that it explains exactly how to start a garden; either from scratch or improving on an existing one. It is in effect a short course in landscape architecture. But, it does not give much attention to smaller gardens. Because the problems you face planning a small garden are very different from the ones adressed here, I recommend you find a specialized book for that. If you have a large garden, this is ideal! Good guide to the topic
Excellent book. Its written like a professional guide, very informative and no-nonsense, with plenty of detail on topics like how to cope with exposed sites, or how to draw up a map of the garden.
Much of the information is only of use if you are fortune enough to have a large garden, however.
