A handy compehensive colour guide to perennials5
This is an excellent guide to a wide range of mainly hardy perennials laid out in alphabetically order. At first glance it seems to offer little more than over and above the RHS Gardener's Encyclopediea of Plants and Flowers. But when you have browsed through it for a while you realise that it covers a very wide range of perennials and, judging from the comments, seems to be written by someone who has had personal experience of growing them. Each entry has, along with a colour photograph, short wrte up on position, height, spread etc, has symbols which show the plants good and bad characteristics. The characteristics can be good such as needs no staking, flowers for a long time etc or bad characteristics such as short lived plant, invasive, highly allergenic (this characteristic I have never seen in any other book)etc. At the end of the book all the plants in the book are listed under the relevant characteristics so if you want to find out which plants to go for as they follow for a long time you have over 200 to choose from. The book is compact and would be useful to take with you when going to a garden centre or garden visiting. Not only is it an excellent reference book it makes for pleasant browsing and planning for a spectacular show.
