When a rat comes to live at the edge of their wood, the animals decide they don't like having a stranger in their midst. But Frog is friendly by nature, and decides to find out if Rat is really as unpleasant as he is made out to be. As Frog discovers, Rat is intelligent and good hearted, and proves in a series of unexpected emergencies that the other animals have been too quick to condemn him.

Don't be a stranger
Max Velthuijs' charming series of 'Frog' tales deserves wider acclaim; after the brilliant 'Frog in Love' this is the best of the bunch, as guileless Frog befriends a stranger - Rat - and deals with the prejudice and judgemental attitudes of his friends towards the new face. Morally strong without being patronising or 'preachy', Frog and the Stranger is a great book for our narrow-minded times, and another in an imaginitive and well drawn series.
excellent
a beautifully positive look at prejudice. Perfectly simple, fun and true.
