Unbeknownst to Marshall Brant and his Black Templars, a squad of ork hunters is also at large in the ork-infested jungles, searching for a high-ranking Imperial officer, lost when his plane crashed. What these two would-be rescuers don't know is that there are other things stirring in the jungles. The savage orks of the Blood Scar tribe hunt them through the dense undergrowth, whilst something dark, ancient and terrible prepares to stretch its murderous hand forth once more...Featuring more action with the Black Templars, this is a blistering sequel to "Crusade for Armageddon"!

Hard to follow
Though I haven't read the previous Armageddon book by Mr Green I have never found it a problem following stories as most 40K books run on the same underlying theme and are easy to read.
Unfortunately Conquest of Armageddon does not fall into that category simply because of the way it is written.
After 100 pages I expected to have some idea of what was going on in the story but still find myself reading back over chapters and looking at the cover blurb to try and get a decent idea of the story. There seems to be no flow to this book. Mr Greens writing jumps from place to place with no real explanation of anything other than unnecessary parts of a characters background and sentences that ramble on like a pensioner on acid. I have never come across a book like it and I am seriously thinking of putting it to one side - something i have never done with any Warhammer book before.
It may be that his writing just doesnt jibe in my head but after reading the likes Dan Abnett, Graham McNeill and Ben Counter I have come to understand that there is a difference between a great Warhammer writer and a writer writing Warhammer. If you are not a great writer the subject matter will not save you.
Death and glory in the forests of Armageddon
The second instalment of the Armageddon series sees the action moved from the ash wastes to the equatorial jungles in order to combat the continued ork menace. This book has Emperors Champion Ansgar and Chaplain Wolfram leading a small team of marines in search for the Gene-Seed of their brothers lost in the jungle. Alongside this story is another following a group of Ork Hunters and an Armageddon Command Guard Lieutenant travel to a secret base in order to retrieve something that could change the coarse of the war. This is a very good book with lots of action and plot twists which will keep you hooked. There are a couple of instances when Jonathan Green gets existing background incorrect, but these are few and far between and probably wouldn’t be noticed by anyone but the most dedicated fan of the Warhammer 40,000 game. As this is the sequel to the great book Crusade for Armageddon, it would be recommended that anyone wishing to read this has a look at that book but it is not a necessity. All in all a superb effort and I cannot wait to see how this books cliff-hanger pans out.
