everything you need to know for the exam
recently took my foundation exam and everything i needed to know was in this book, id almost say that the questions in this book are slightly harder than the questions i encountered in the exam.
like a lot of technical books this is not the easiest book to read and id recommend having small reading sessions as your mind will start switching off if you try to read too much in one session.
read it through, then dip into it at various points that you cant remember, there are chapter review tests at the end of each chapter and a sample exam at the end of the book.
id also recommend taking the tests with a notepad, go through the whole test with your answers, marking the ones your unsure of, then check the answers and recheck the sections you got wrong or just needed to refresh.
so, not the easiest book to read but very thorough and will give you everything you need to pass the exam.
Tale of 2 books
Brought this book in conjunction with "Software Testing - An ISEB Foundation". I want to take the relevant exam without having to invest in doing the course. Firstly I haven't finished the book but have read enough of it to form the following opinion. Yes, it covers everything required for the course in a very detailed manner, but like a lot of books written by experts in the area of technology it is very uninspiring from a reading point of view.
Foundations of Software Testing: ISTQB Certification
Used this book solely for self study ( to complement several years of practical experience) prior to taking the ISEB Foundation Certificate in Software Testing. Found it very informative and easy to work with and the questions at the end of each chapter, plus the Mock exam were very useful. They were excellent preparation and took away a lot of the fear and anxiety associated with taking the exam itself. Consequently, I passed the exam with a very satisfactory mark.
