'Hide and Seek', with a distinct message
in this lovely read-to-me story, one of a series from Richard Edwards.
From the back cover:-
`...."Can't find me here!" called Copycub, hiding in the bushes.
"Oh, yes I can!" replied his mother.
Copycub loves to play hide-and-seek, but wherever he hides, his mother always finds him. Then one day Copycub thinks of the perfect hiding place, deep in the woods: a place which is just a bit TOO good....
A reassuring story full of warmth and affection, which is perfect for reading at bedtime.....'
32 high quality shiny pages in the popular 2-page spread format, with a repeat element, giving the opportunity for interaction.
Superbly illustrated throughout, by Susan Winter, even on the mildly `darker' pages.
Example of text, which is moderate sized:-
`Copycub was a young bear who loved playing games. His favourite game was hiding, but he could never think of a good enough place, and his mother always found him.
In the spring, the bears woke up from their long winter's sleep.
Copycub's mother stretched. Copycub stretched.
Copycub's mother scratched. Copycub scratched.
Then he crept to hide in a corner of the bear cave.
"Can't find me here!" he called.
"Oh yes, I can," said his mother.
She tiptoed across the cave, reached into the shadows and lifted the small bear high above her head.
"Got you, little Copycub!"......`
And so the story continues, until, one day......Copycub manages to slip off without his mother seeing him.
It is such a good hiding place that his "Can't find me here!" call is not heard, however loud he gets......so he eventually leaves his hiding place, gets lost.....and doesn't know what to do next, as darkness descends.
But all is that ends well and Copycub learns the valuable lesson of not running off on his own again.
