Grant morrison keeps getting better
A murder mystery on a Secluded island is brilliant setting using golden age characters in a new light seems to be morrisons Forte in this run up to batman rip.
having read every major batman event and all of morrisons work this did not disappoint me in the slightest. with amazing story telling and brilliant art work im really happy theyve let morrison do what he does best, a slightly surreal take on comic books.
cant wait for batman rip! and make sure to pick up batman and son to understand the last chapter of this book
A big let down
I have always struggled with Grant Morrison's work, and I'm prepared to admit that I simply may not get the point of his work. However, this book, Black Glove, is just bizarre in the extreme and failed to hold my attention in any meaningful way whatsoever. I've been reading Batman material for 30 years but I seem to have missed something along the way - this tale of a bunch of Batmen meeting at a secret location was just way too out there for my tastes. I just couldn't get into it at all, nor did I understand anything that was going on, nor who anyone was, and frankly the whole book (I did stick it out until the end) was just very poor. There are many far better titles out there.
A pleasantly suprising good read!
I have to be honest and say that I didn't enjoy the previous Grant Morrison collections - "Batman and Son" and "The Resurrection of Ra's Al Ghul". I felt that they lacked sophistication and were pretty much kiddie comics, reflected by sub-par artwork and weak story telling.
This collection on the other hand was a pleasant surprise. It is consistently well written by Morrison and supported by good artwork by JH William's III and Tony S. Daniel (Ryan Benjamin pencils the last chapter which is a slight let down thus 4 stars), complementing the atmosphere of the stories in this volume. There is a real sense that this is leading up to the "Batman R.I.P." hardcover (due Feb 09) which I am very much looking forward to.
Be sure to check this out!
