The Fleet Air Arm (FAA) of the Royal Navy served with distinction in every theatre of war throughout World War II. From its poorly equipped beginnings - it started the war with few suitable, modern, carrier-born fighters - to the final campaigns over the Japanese home islands, the FAA proved an effective fighting force wherever it went. FAA Pilots had the distinction of being responsible for both the first, and last, enemy aircraft to be shot down during the war. Featuring first hand accounts, combat reports, photographs from private collections and an array of colour plates depicting the range of profiles and symbolic markings that were used, this book will detail the history and combat experiences of these forgotten pilots who served with such distinction for the Allied cause.

Good Buy
Very enjoyable book, takes one through the different phases of Fleet Air Arm war in Europe, Mediterranean, Indian Ocean, Pacific and last days over Japan without getting boring.
Plates usual high standard for the Aircraft of the Aces series.
While falling flat on their faces with foreign subjects, as usual the own British subject was executed very well in book form.
The book is not exhaustive with information, but touches the most important subjects to get one started (FAA Pilots on Mosquitos 1944).
Recommended buy!
Informative, colourful book
The Royal navy only regained control of the aircraft that flew on their behalf some 4 months before the outbreak on WW II. Confronted with a motly assortment of obsolete aircraft, the navy went to war. This books describes in quite good detail the actions the Fleet Air Arm took part in, including the pilots, the aircraft carriers and of course aircraft. There are some super colour illustrations, ideal for the modeler. Always outnumbered and fighting more modern aircraft it was a miracle that by the middle of the war there were any aircraft carriers still afloat. With the injection of purpose built American naval fighters slowly things went the FAA's way. Culmination in the magnificent Carrier Group The British Pacific Fleet aka Task Force 37. Armed with these superior aeroplanes the FAA should what it was capable of. A well written book, superbly illustrated a good read, highly recommended.
