This book does exactly what it says in the title. Helping you step by step through the basics of cake baking and decorating, it is a foolproof guide to creating your own party cakes.

Baking a sponge, madeira, chocolate or fruit cake? The book gives you easy to read tables for all sizes and shapes of cake tins. There are also recipes and instructions for different types of icing. Everything is simply laid out and easy to follow.

The choice of cake decoration ranges from children's cakes to fancier celebratory cakes and are great for beginners while giving ideas to more established decorators. Well worth the money.

Beginners Guide is just what I needed
I was looking for a simple book to tell me how to decorate a children's birthday cake, which icings to use and to give me some ideas. This book was just what I needed. The maderia cake recipe was beautiful and I combined some of the ideas to create a lovely teddy bear cake for my daughter's 3rd birthday. I'd recommend this book for anyone but especially for beginners.

Beginners to more adept
This book got me interested in a cake decorating course, simply put but when followed acheive good results. Would recommend it to those wanting to attept to decorate a cake for the first time and those wanting some inspiration.
