Customer Reviews

Dated, but the best that I am aware of3
This is an excellent book for serious microscopists.

When it was written, it would have been worth four or even five stars.

It is a great shame that it has not been updated.

Contents: Introduction, The hand lens, Low power stereomicroscopes, Compound microscopes, Basic concepts, Illumination, Practical uses.

This book is outdated, and the contents list does not do it justice.

It is nonetheless the best text for a serious light microscopist that I am aware of. It is not for the beginner, and certainly not for a child who got a "toy" microscope for Christmas.

Much of the information is timeless (eg basic principals like lens arrangements and Kohler illumination), and well worth reading.

If it were updated with modern advances like parallel beam technology, ergonomics, and a few more tips and tricks this book would be back to a five star rating.

There may a better book for serious light microscopists, but I haven't found it yet. If you have, please let me know!
